What to Expect Once Treatment Starts

Day One

When you first come into the office, you will sit down with Dr Kirby so he can go over potential risks and side effects associated with TMS, as well as go over any last questions you may have. Of course, please feel free to bring a loved one if you would like their support.

Once you are in the treatment room, the TMS clinician will adjust the NeuroStar chair to the most comfortable spot for you. Dr Kirby and the clinician will then work together to locate the perfect treatment position.

When the perfect location is found, the clinician will start the treatment session. You will feel a gentle tapping sensation on your head, that will most likely be unfamiliar to you. But someone will be there the entire time to talk you through it, make adjustments if necessary, answer questions, and help you pass the time. This will last about 20 minutes.

After treatment is over, you can get on with your life, and we’ll see you the following day. This first appointment typically lasts about an hour-and-a-half to two hours.

Days Two through Thirty-six

Each session after the first day will take you about 30 minutes, from when you walk through the office doors, to when you walk out.

Since a typical course of TMS is a total of 36 sessions, we will help you find the perfect time of day to come in for the rest of your treatment sessions.

Ideally, for the first 30 days, you’ll come in every weekday. After that, you’ll taper off treatments, by coming in 3 days a week, then 2 days a week, and 1 time your final week.

But don’t worry, we’re flexible and can work around nearly every kind of schedule.
